Hyssop leaves have a minty aroma but a lightly bitter taste due to presence of tannins in the leaf. It is also used to flavor liqueurs, and is part of the formulation of Chartreuse. Traditionally used for ailments affecting the chest and lungs, such as colds and coughs. More scientific evidence is needed to rate the effectiveness of hyssop for these uses.
